If you are looking to improve your poker game, then you must be ready to change your style of playing. You need to give up certain habits, sacrifice some chips, and make tough decisions out of your comfort zone.

Analyze how you have been playing the game. Compare yourself to the successful poker players in your circle. You will most likely come to the conclusion that you need to be looser or tighter, be more aggressive, be less emotional, be more deceptive, among other factors.

It is very difficult to change one’s style of game since you need to deal with factors that are part of your very own personality. If you are not the kind of person who wants to take risks, then most likely you are among those who play very conservatively. You are very patient, you save a lot of money, you have insurance coverage for everything, and you drive carefully.

Aggressive poker players on the other hand are willing to take the risk. In life, these are the people who might go for high paying but very dangerous jobs, do not like a routine, loves the fast lane, and the list goes on.

You need to understand who you are first. You need to know how it fits your game, why you need to change it, and how you can change it. In order to get more money out of your opponents, you have to be honest with yourself and start getting out of your comfort zone. Be ready to think the way you have not thought for before. Be ready to take risks which you often do not even consider taking before. Once you commit to a program to change your game play, you have to stick to it.

Determine the cost of your game style. Know how much your winnings and losses are and see how you can gain more by changing your style. Make this as part of your motivation to keep on pursuing change. And what is more important is to focus on your goals and commit yourself to change your poker play.

I feel so sick after watching this hand. Tom Dwan is so tough to play against. Yes, this huge valuebet is often the nuts, and yes, for most players this is very polarizing bet-wise; but I’ve seen Dwan do this in relatively marginal spots as well. Whereas if I would do it; I’d probably be very polarized; but often Tom Dwan is merging in this spot too…

Beautiful poker, Tom “durrrr” Dwan is a genius.

Phil Laak is a solid professional who has also learned how to squeeze as much out of his celebrity status as he possibly can. I love Phil Laak; and I love the way he markets himself.

On the other end of this hand, Bob Safai is somewhat of a moron-poker-fish/succesful business genius. I’m amazed at how many intelligent people, successful people — feel the need to go broke (even though they’ve got millions behind) playing poker against professionals on television in shows like Poker After Dark on NBC
